"Those Who Have Eyes Will Hear" is a conceptual performance that combines cinematic symphonic music with a touch of hip-hop, opera, gospel and soul merged with film.
The composer/creator Eriq Troi, an Akron, Ohio native, wanted to tell stories based on everyday experiences of African-Americans. It is an invitation to the African diaspora and the world to see Black America outside of the monolithic images and ideas of popular culture and to reimagine opera/symphony as a multicultural musical experience by intertwining various genres of music and merging it with film inspired by the compositions.
This "proof of concept", described by film maker Darrell Sampson, is also a massive collaboration with various art-disciplines to highlight and mobilize the local community of artists/creators in one collective living art exhibition.
Thanks to The Akron Black Artist Guild and Arts Now this vision is now an experience we hope you will enjoy.
